About the Project
"Altitude South" is a marvellously rich visual project created by intrepid Australian aerial photographers David Dahlenburg, Tim Wrate, and Grandmaster Paul Hoelen. An ambitious project over 2 years in both the planning and execution, we travelled over 8500km around the remotest areas of South Australia in a small Cessna over a meticulously planned route to capture images of some of the least known and photographed features and areas of the state.
The large scale art project explores the cultural, historical, and modern legacy written into the raw and powerful landscape of South Australia. There are plenty of stories to be told about both the triumphs and challenges that we experienced around the false starts, weather and logistical issues, amazing characters met along the way and how it ultimately changed our personal relationship and understanding of South Australia's landscape forever.
