Exhibition Opening: Sasha Grbich & Sue Kneebone Choral Grief
Sasha Grbich & Sue Kneebone
Choral Grief
Adelaide Central Gallery | Saturday, 12 August, 2–3pm
To support the launch of Sasha Grbich’s new exhibition, Hospicing William Light, please join us for this special public program highlighting the way in which artists utilise archival material and intervene in historical museum collections.
Sasha Grbich will provide an artist talk which unpacks her new film and other works in the exhibition. Hospicing William Light draws upon and remixes archival material as part of a decolonist strategy influenced by the writings of cultural theorist Vanessa Machado de Oliveira.
Sue Kneebone will present and discuss new work which is featured in the current exhibition Twist at the Tasmanian Museum of Art Gallery. This exhibition explores ways in which contemporary art can be used to intervene in museum collections to deepen, challenge or augment the historical memory associated with artefacts and images on display.
The event will conclude with a live performance by the choir Choral Grief. Adelaide’s premier sad song choir have contributed a new funeral dirge to Grbich’s film, Hospicing William Light, which will be performed live in the gallery.
This engaging program of talks and performances will expand and enrich the exhibition, while also highlighting staff scholarship at Adelaide Central School of Art. Don’t miss it!
Adelaide Central Gallery will be open from 1pm – 3:30pm.
