Welcome - Miranda Mazurek
A very big, warm welcome to Miranda!! Miranda will be joining the CCP team for term 2, teaching Photographing people. Her passion and enthusiasm for studio work make her the perfect person to teach you how to expertly control the studio environment.
As you can see by her work below there isn’t anything that this photographer can’t shoot and we look forward to seeing all the amazing images her students create.
Check out Q&A to find out what makes her click.
1. How long have you been a photographer/When did you first start taking photos? I’ve been shooting without focus for a long time, though focused as a progressive career change for the past 6 years!
2. What was it that made you fall in love with photography? I am an emotionally connected magpie; gravitating towards vibrant, shiny things; costumes, fashion, makeup, people, experiences and the human experience, dark and light. Photography allows me to express and capture emotion, my thoughts, and keeps my imagination in check. I adore the ability a photograph has at being able to slow down my mind, whilst capturing the essence of a scene, a time, a concept or a feeling.
3. Who or what are your main inspirations? I am inspired by the world around us; by people, our experience, our shape, our heart. From love to loss, to the vibrant and the dark – I am in between, circling and imagining.
4. What kind of photographs do you make? Would you say you have a specific style? My predominant focus is a studio photographer, with a smackering of creative direction and producing. I live for the shoot ideating, planning and control of the studio environment. The elaborate studio shoots in a controlled environment (and outside shoots with studio lighting too). This ranges from portraits, product and commercial work to fine art compositing. Landscapes are a secret thrill, finding a location and the moments of solitude as you wait for the decisive moment. I am happiest in a studio with a marvellous concept, my assistant and our imagination! I love my digital camera, as am predominantly a digital artist, though my film camera still gets a great workout too.
5. What are you most looking forward to about teaching at CCP? Sharing in the excitement of development and learning! Helping students to seek, discover learn, apply and achieve their full potential. I’m excited to mentor and guide students to believing they can achieve anything!
6. What is your best advice for new students? Don’t leave things to the last minute; plan, ideate and shoot the plan! And, sometimes things won’t work and there will be frustration. This is ok, it’s part of the process – nothing is unsolvable, together.
