Guided Independent Study for Diploma

FOR DIPLOMA STUDENTS ONLY
This course provides an opportunity to students to work independently on a chosen topic under the guidance of a supervisor. The topic of study can either be offered by the supervisor or proposed by the student and has to be mutually agreed by both parties. Regardless the subject focus will be drawn from either a conceptually-based or camera-based subject that is offered in the Diploma Award. The content delivered is usually not available for studio or darkroom-based study, but can be incorporated by the student into this module if necessary.

BEFORE YOU ENROL, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
All students must attend a minimum of 7 out of the 9 classes each term in order to receive a pass. If this is not possible, you will need to discuss this with your lecturer or the admin team. You can request an extension from your lecturer for the final assessment, however, the maximum extension is two weeks. If you are unable to hand in your work by this time you will need to resit the class. If it is due to extenuating circumstances, please discuss this with your lecturer. If your circumstances change and it is no longer possible for you to study, you can defer your course to the next term up until week 5. Refunds can only be given if you withdraw from the course before the census date, which is the last Friday of the previous term. Please be aware You will still be forfeiting your 20% non-refundable deposit.

Class Prerequisites
Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging or equivalent and a commitment to complete the Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging but at a loss for subject availability for the current schedule.
N.B this is a Diploma level only option.
Duration
Nine weeks, one class per week, up to three hours per class. Students should expect to do an extra six hours per week of their own work outside of class time.
Required Materials
Your required materials can be varied depending upon your objectives and your chosen subject – it is assumed you have a portfolio or project you wish to complete.

outcomes.
Additional Information
The purpose of this subject is to enable upper-level students wishing to continue their studies to complete the Diploma when there isn’t a suitable subject choice or timeslot offered in the current schedule for the
applicant’s study plan. There will be no specific lectures per sé, rather the information, tutoring and portfolio development given will be negotiated weekly between the supervisor and the student in the form of excursions, bespoke tuition, guest artists or any other, relevant delivery of content. Any relevant competencies will be awarded upon the completion of this study period and is recommended for motivated individuals committed to
completing their Diploma. This can be the subject equivalent to: Camera Portfolio 3 or 4, Photographic Concepts 1, 2 or 3 with having completed the appropriate prerequisite.
The maximum students for this module are limited to 4.
